20 Feb Get to know me
Today I thought it might be important to you to learn a bit more about me and EFW. So I’ll try to give you the Reader’s Digest version of who I am and how EFW came to be.
When I moved to Texas with my three young sons, Nick, Garrett, and Benjamin, my now husband Jason and I had only been dating less than 6 months. It was a huge leap of faith but I just knew in my soul he was the right guy. Never did I suspect way back then that I would be a fitness trainer. I was very focused on making a name for myself in higher education. In total, I spent 20 years in higher ed in various roles from admissions to financial aid to education support and even career placement. But those last years began taking a toll on my health and my stress was really high.
One day I pulled into a big box gym and signed up. Paid for a whole year of training and membership. During that year there were many times I wanted to throw in the towel. It was hard to put in the effort after a long 10 hour day at work. I hung in and as my body got stronger I began to feel better. That feeling better feeling was addictive and I found myself going to the gym often.
When I was at the gym on my “cardio” days I would watch the training floor below as many women and even some men, wandered around trying to figure out what they should be doing. I grimaced when I would watch a young trainer work with someone my age or older and see the types of things they directed the client to do. After all, there really isn’t any “functional” reason to flip a tractor tire around a gym. So I decided to become a trainer myself to help those who felt out of place and uncomfortable the big box gyms. After a year of training clients in their homes, driveways, and in parks and working part-time for a boutique gym in Conroe I decided to open EFW and cater directly to the 50 & BETTER population.
We turned 2 in February and I couldn’t be more proud of the community of clients that have found their way to us. Our trainers are all certified under the Internationally recognized Functional Aging Institue as Functionally Aging Specialists. That means we understand how to train that 50+ client with hip, knee, or shoulder injuries as well as keeping an eye on other age-related illnesses. We offer classes in both yoga and tai chi and often invite other health and wellness professionals in to share information.
EFW is dedicated to you! We’re here to support you, guide you, coach you, and educate you. Please reach out as you have questions.
