Undereating – The Silent Saboteur of Men’s Health

June 06, 20251 min read

🧠 Undereating isn’t just a women’s health issue. Many men—especially over 50—aren’t eating enough of the right nutrients, and it’s silently working against their health goals.

🔹 What’s happening?
Men trying to “cut back” or lose weight often drastically reduce calories—especially protein and healthy fats. This backfires by:

  • 🔻 Lowering testosterone levels, which impacts energy, mood, and metabolism

  • 🧱 Reducing muscle mass, since the body starts breaking down muscle for fuel

  • 🦴 Weakening bones, due to inadequate intake of calcium, vitamin D, and protein

  • 📉 Slowing metabolism, making it easier to gain weight over time, not lose it

🔹 What to do?
Fuel your body for performance, not punishment. Aim for:

  • 25–30g of protein per meal

  • Balanced meals with fiber, healthy fats, and micronutrients

  • Eating consistently to support hormone function and muscle maintenance

💥 Remember: Undereating is not a long-term strategy—it’s a fast track to energy loss, fat gain, and muscle decline.
